Success Story: Post-Purification of Beet Sugar Juice Optimized by Highly Efficient In-Line pH-Measurement

Cost savings in manpower, greater reliability of the measured pH values and less need of chemicals at the Hokuren Shimizu Plant in Hokkaido/Japan
The Hokuren Shimizu plant in Hokkaido, Japan decided to simplify the measuring process in the post juice-purification process and to reduce the associated maintenance effort. With the implementation of an in-line pH measurement loop they found a highly satisfying solution.

Japan produces two types of sugar - beet sugar and cane sugar. Beet sugar production is centered in Hokkaido, while cane sugar production is located in Okinawa and on the islands of Kagoshima. Domestically produced sugar meets about one quarter of domestic demand and the rest is imported. In terms of Japan's total sugar production, Hokkaido's production has constituted between 75 and 80 percent……

Customer's expectations
The expectation was to obtain more reliable measurements in comparison to the samples taken previously, and to lower the expense for manpower. There was strong pressure to abandon the regular off-line sampling procedure……
