A requirement for ‘zero errors’ means a supplier needs to provide a constant high-quality guarantee. Let’s take an example of a car parts supplier. A Tier 1 car parts supplier manufacturers molded plastic parts and plastic modules consisting of several components. The preassembled modules are delivered directly to the assembly line of different car manufacturers without any entry check for completeness. Faults at this stage can be very expensive for the ISO/TS16949 certified supplier. Therefore it is very important that the control, before shipment, is reliable. METTLER TOLEDO checkweighing scales are an economical and ideal solution in such situations. Each part tested can be documented with lot ID, date and time in using a printer or sending the data to a computer. All results are documented in detail and in accordance to the requested ISO/TS16949 standard. Calibration and documentation is much easier to perform for a scale than for an optical or mechanical device. The calibration of a scale is traceable according to national standards. Besides calibration the parts supplier profits from automated quality checks that assure consistent quality. Routine scale tests can be carried out by the staff and helps to detect errors or minor changes early.

Eliminating Process Risks
The accuracy and reliability of weighing results can be improved by testing scales at predefined intervals and to specified process tolerances. Quality relevant weighing has to always be very accurate. While equipment calibration is usually performed by authorized technicians once a year, routine tests performed by customers are carried out more frequently. Frequent testing allows the detection of deviations from process tolerances at an early stage before any harm is done. Once an ’out of tolerance’ status is detected, measures can be taken to prevent further damages, such as loss of precious goods or even harm to people.

More Accuracy: Stainless Steel Superior to Iron Weights
METTLER TOLEDO has introduced the newest generation of rectangular stainless steel weights which use an improved forged, versus a simply cast, manufacturing process. For centuries ’forged’ was specifically related to the most durable and highest quality tools and hardware. The best, perfectly cast weight can never achieve the exact same properties as castings are rarely perfect. Cast weights often conceal hidden defects below the surface (cracks, porosity and sand inclusions) that would be exposed as defects in a forged weight. The forging of stainless steel weights improves its structure, closes porosity, avoids any sand inclusions from molding and guarantees high corrosion resistance. The new stainless steel weights are manufactured in accordance with International Recommendation OIML-R111 regarding material, surface conditions, density and magnetism. The forged manufacturing process guarantees extreme stability over a long period.
