At the Beauvais site of Givenchy, near Paris, more than 800 different raw materials are handled day-in day-out in two main manufacturing areas to produce creams, lipsticks, mascaras and foundations. Know-how, high precision technology and compliance with regulations are the basis of the efficient manufacturing process and products of the highest quality. The quality manager comments: “We operate according with Good Manufacturing Practice regulations. Also, from installation to calibration and operational qualification, METTLER TOLEDO provides services to ensure that each instrument delivers a certified performance to the required specifications.”From acceptance of raw materials throughout each manufacturing step and the final shipment of products, weighing precision is at the heart of the successful manufacturing of Givenchy products. Every raw material is identified in the SAP system and released for production only after extensive laboratory quality control tests. In the weighing booth a weighing terminal is connected with high-precision balances and scales. After identifying the raw material with a barcode reader, the operator selects the appropriate balance or scale and weighs the raw materials sequentially. Powders, liquids, waxes, surfactants, preservatives, and many other additives are weighed from a few grams up to 150kg with strict tolerances of 0.3%. The FormXP software Pac can store and recall up to 150 formulas and 500 components. It also enables message editing, components, and formula data. Weighing operations and data are automatically recorded and documented for full GMP compliance. The FormXP software automatically generates a label onto which all of the relevant product data is printed. This is then added to each raw material and only then the material is transferred to the production area.
