Moisture and Density Determination Lowers Energy Costs, Reduces Material Consumption and Increases Productivity

Increased productivity with innovative plastic testing

To survive on the market, plastic products need to make the grade when it comes to quality requirements. The quantity of rejects or even recalls of complete component series can be extremely costly and damaging to the reputation of the company.

Efficient testing at each stage of the process therefore plays a decisive role in long term success.
METTLER TOLEDO offers a single source for successful plastic testing:

Successful injection molding processing -
Optimized energy costs

Raw materials or granules absorb moisture (water) through contact with ambient air in production and transport or storage. Pre-drying is required in the majority of cases to guarantee a high and consistent product quality and smooth processing.

By determining the total moisture or exact water content - depending on respective requirements - you can optimize the pre-drying process and, ultimately, saving energy costs. You can also avoid defective parts and large quantities of rejects. This increases productivity and lowers production costs.

Production-related moisture determination
The HR83 Halogen Moisture Analyzer is perfect for production-related moisture determination. It is robust, quick and easy-to-use and provides reliable results down to a total moisture of 0.02%.

Precise water content determination
Combined with the Stomboli kiln sample changerthe   Karl Fischer Titrator DL39 enables precise water content determination from a low percent up to the low ppm ranges. The automation also brings benefits such as standardized operational procedures and more accurate results as well as improved reproducibility and increased quality control efficiency.

Density kit solutions

From the analytical balance to the densitometer: Simple Installation

Each Excellence analytical balance can be quickly converted for density measurement using a special kit.  On the XP und XS balances the weighing pan is simply replaced by the density kit and the balance is ready to determine the density of solids and liquids.

Fast, simple, precise: The right approach for testing your samples

The density kit determines the density of solids, porous materials or viscous substances. The XP and XS balance software calculates and logs the density values. Measurement results can either be transferred to a computer or printed out. XP and XS analytical balances are ideal for testing the quality of your raw and filling materials, significantly reducing materials and costs.

Features of the XP and XS analytical balances with density kit: Simple installation

  • Clear menu guidance on the balance display
  • Fast, reliable and practical handling
  • Temperature entry with an accuracy of 0.1%
  • High reproducibility of up to 0.001 g/cm3
  • Simple sample identification
  • Saved density tables for the temperature function of ethanol and water
  • Logs in seven languages (ge, en, fr, it, es, ja, ru)
  • Separate statistics for each measuring method

Innovative solutions for your success from METTLER TOLEDO:

Increased reliability in plastics processing
Due to the maximum possible sensitivity in the DSC instrument field, sample effects which have until now gone unnoticed can be detected, thereby increasing product safety. Thanks to the 56 (FRS5-Sensor)) or the 120 (HSS7-Sensor) thermal elements, a large raw signal is measured, which leads to outstanding results (MultiSTAR®-sensors).

Simple interpretation of DSC gradients
Overlapping effects can be separated by the modern TOPEM®-Technologie – the highly developed, patented multi-frequency TMDSC technology.

This simplifies the interpretation of the curves.

Optimum plastic testing in the tightest space
The optional XS/XP analytical balances  from METTLER TOLEDO can also used in connected with STARe-Software avoiding user-defined transmission errors in the sample mass.

Future-proof through modular design
The new Excellence product line in thermal analysis provides unlimited modularity and the correct solution for all current and future requirements. For example, the automatic sample changer (which can be retrofitted at any time) is ideal for time-saving, efficient work.
