In spherical crystallization, process optimization can be difficult because the mechanism and effect of process parameters are often unclear. In-process monitoring of the chord length distribution using Lasentec FBRM provides insight into the dynamics of spherical crystallization. When the formation of spherical crystals of salicylic acid is monitored using FBRM, it is determined that the composition of the solvent system has a significant effect on the production of spherical crystals.
