FBRM® Technology

FBRM® provides the ability to analyze particle and droplet systems at full process concentration without the need for sampling and off-line analysis.

Traditional offline particle size analysis has limited capabilities due to the difficulty of obtaining and preparing a representative sample. In addition, changes occurring between sampling and analysis can easily affect the properties that we are most interested in – including the concentration, size and shape of the particles or droplets. This is especially true in dynamic processes such as crystallization, flocculation, granulation and others where the particle system is changing considerably over the course of time. FBRM® was first developed and introduced by Lasentec® (Laser Sensor Technology Corporation) in 1986, at which time it won a coveted R&D100 prize for its innovative design allowing measurement of particles in concentrated suspensions and slurries – without the need for sampling and dilution.
