Analog Load Cell Barrier for Hazardous (EX) Applications

Description
The new ISB is a smaller, much improved analog load cell barrier. The new ISB (Intrinsic Safety Barrier) is designed specifically for use in high accuracy/high resolution weighing applications. When installed in a load cell cable between a terminal in a safe area and analog load cells in a hazardous area, the ISB limits the energy delivered into the hazardous area to prevent ignition of a potentially explosive atmosphere. The ISB features a redundant Zener diode design for full protection even if two diodes fail. When a fault condition occurs, the diodes conduct and blow a fuse, opening thecircuit to the load cell(s). In addition, replaceable fuses protect the barrier against wiring errors during installation and service. These fuses can be replaced without removing wiring or connectors.
Four models of the new ISB are available based on different excitation voltages of the terminal connected to the barrier and the environment in which the barrier will be located. The ISB05 and ISB05X are designed to work with terminals providing a maximum excitation voltage of +5 volts DC referenced to signal ground. The ISB15 and ISB15X are designed to work with terminals providing from +5volts DC to +15 volts DC excitation voltage as referenced to signal ground. The ISB05 and ISB15 are used for General Purpose, Safe Area use. The ISB5X and ISB15X feature NEMA Type 7/9 Flameproof Enclosures for Hazardous Area use.
The ISB has been tested and approved by independent agencies in the U.S. and Europe to assure its safety. The ISB05 and ISB15 safe area models have been approved as [EEx ia] IIC in Europe and AIS/I,II,III/1/ABCDEFG in the U.S.. The ISB05X and ISB15X models have been approved as EEx d IIB+H2 [ia] IIC T6 in Europe and XP/I/1/CD T6; DIP/II,III/1/EFG T6 in the U.S. TheISB is the only intrinsic safe barrier design approved for use in weighing applications with metrology approvals from Europe and the United States.
