Founded in the 1930’s as a family bakery business in Newcastle, Greggs is now the leading bakery retailer in the UK. Today it comprises of over 1,000 shops nationwide and serves approximately 4 million customers per week.
Greggs have 11 regional bakeries situated throughout the country, each supplying their regional shops with freshly made products to help ensure great taste, quality and value to their customers.
The possible risk of product contamination can come from a number of sources from within the bakery environment, as the production process involves a number of stages including, batching, mixing, depositing, baking and slicing. Earlier this year, to detect any contamination, a double headed metal detection system, comprising of a SAFELINE R Series Profile metal detector and a Ferrous-in- Foil Detector in one complete unit was installed at the Greggs Northwest Division site. This system is capable of delivering high performance in-line metal detection even when products are wrapped or packaged in aluminium foil.
